Installing a New Panel

While the new panel was being cut, painted and silkscreened, Dan and I worked on removing the old panel. Some of this work was done back in December. The plane was moved to Ukiah in June, where we finished the removal of the old and installation of the new.

Before doing much else, we had to remove all of the instruments. Only the engine guages, switches, circuit breakers and yokes were left in. This allowed us to quickly add an airspeed indicator and altimeter so we could legally move the plane. The plane is brought to Eagle's Nest aviation, in Ukiah (KUKI). In Ukiah, the remaining guages are removed

Dan is working on getting the rivets out of the panel brace. The rivets holding the old panel brace are drilled out, and the top part is cut to free the entire assembly. The old panel and integral brace.

Test-fitting the new panel. A bit of the old panel is left behind to serve as a mounting point along the top. After removing the dimmer assembly, the wirinng is easier to clean up. The new panel, after painting, lights, switches and circuit breakers is installed. A new brace is mounted behind it.

The throttle quadrant is installed, and the cables are adjusted. This took over two hours!
