Electrical bus control. Each large handle corresponds to one of 5 (6?) generators Disposable ballast for Alvin. They start with 1000 lb to submerge, drop 500 to become neutral, drop 500 more to ascend. Giant hatch overhead outside Alvin battery servicing area.

Alving battery servicing room. Plugs on one of three giant battery chargers (the blue box). Cabling on exterior of Alvin. Each bundle of wires is enclosed in a tube filled with high-dielectric fluid, so that they can withstand the very high pressures of 4500 m depths.
